The Classical Pointe
The Ballet school was established in 1990, when Dancers Principal Joanne Bobrow bought her teacher Leigh Cottrell’s ballet studio. The school had approximately 60 dancers and was situated in the Riverclub Shopping Centre. Joanne continued to teach there over the following 13 years. In 1999 Tracey Mc Niven joined Joanne and together they built the school up to over 100 students from beginner levels (ages 3) to senior students in their vocational training.
In 2004, Joanne built a studio adjoining her home in Kent Road Bryanston. This was a new beginning for DANCERS.
The studio growth was huge. Amber Jones joined the studio to teach Modern dancing and Mireille Lenferna joined to teach Flamenco. The numbers of students doubled over time and the school now consists of 6 Ballet teachers (RAD) 2 Modern Teachers (AIDT) and 2 Flamenco teachers (Alianza Flamenca)
The school consists of 2 dance studios with state of the art facilities, dance mats, sound, security, bathroom with shower facility, a foyer, storerooms, a costume container and secure parking.
We offer classes for beginner ballerinas from 3 years and up, specialising in children, adults as well as professional training to students who wish to make a career of classical ballet.
The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus is taught to students and examinations are held every year. RAD Graded Exams are from Pre – Primary up to Grade 5 and Vocational exams are from Intermediate Foundation up to Advanced 2. We also offer Solo Seal Award training.
All students are given the opportunity to perform stage work every year. We enter festivals, eisteddfods and competitions, as well as biannually all students participate and dance in a production which is staged in a theatre.
We offer students the platform to create and choreograph their own pieces in our annual choreographic competition. Many of these works are chosen to enter into festivals or competitions.
We offer pilates, body conditioning, open ballet, adult ballet and open pointework classes.
Our senior students have the opportunity to partake in live and zoom classes with guest teachers from around South Africa and the world.
We have superb facilities with state of the art studios and equipment as well as secure parking.
